Beater wheel mills are appliances designed to prepare a dust-gas fuel mixture for combustion in furnace chambers of steam boilers by pulverizing, drying, classifying and transporting coal to the dust-gas burners. Beater wheel mills can also be used for grinding other mineral materials, such as limestone, dolomite, sulphur and lime.

Beater wheel mills perform two functions simultaneously:
1) of a mill pulverising coal into dust with required grain-size distribution,
2) of a suction fan, which draws in the required amount of drying medium and transports the produced dust fuel into the combustion chamber.

Milling process in beater wheel mills is effected by breaking particles of a mineral to smaller particles. The beater wheel, which is the active component, rotates inside the milling chamber. The diameter of beater wheels, depending on desired milling capacity, may measure from 700 mm to 3700 mm.
